Consular and Immigration Information

There is a waiting period of seven (7) working days for processing and issuance of
most documents. In addition, it takes three (3) months or more to receive a new
Liberian passport.  To expedite most processes within 24 hours, an additional $50.00
per document will be charged.  Payment to services are to be made by cash, money
order, cashier's check or corporate check
payable to the Liberian Consulate General
in New York, NY.
Note: No Credit/Debt Cards or Personal Checks are accepted.  
All processing fees(s) are NON-REFUNDABLE.
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: As of March 3, 2008, all applicants
need to make an appointment 3 days before coming to the office

VISA Requirements
  1. Passport must be valid at least six(6) months.
  2. Completion of one(1) Visa Application with one recent passport size photo.
  3. (For Business Visa Only) Any person(s) being sponsored by a company or organization should present a letter
    assuming financial responsibility during proposed stays in Liberia.
  4. Presentation of round trip ticket or itinerary to Liberia .  If in transit, Visa for ultimate destination.
  5. Yellow fever vaccination is required. (Yellow Book)
  6. Applicants need not apply in person.  They must send a USPS self-stamped address envelope (EXPRESS MAIL)
    together with the requirements.
  7. Visas are issued seven (7) days after submission of passport and requirements.
  8. Additional requirements for Minor (17 Yrs. Old and  Below)
    a. Copy of Birth Certificate
    b. Notarized letter from both parents (parents must sign) requesting for    
        the issuance of visa. (If only one parent/guardian explain in the letter)
    c. Copy of their Vaccination records.

New Passport Requirements
Liberian Citizens residing abroad can apply for a Liberian Passport through the Liberian Consulates.  The Consulate will
forward the forms, photographs, and fees to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Issuance of passports.  List of
requirements are as follow:
  1. Applicants must show at least one (1) valid proof of citizenship such as;
  1. Copy of the first five (5) pages of the expired Liberian passport.
  2. Original copy of Liberian Birth Certificate.
  3. Original copy of Liberian Naturalization Document.
  4. I-94 Form.
  5. Refugee Documents.
  1. Four (4) passport size photographs ( proper dress for ladies and gentlemen ).  Gents must wear a suit and tie or a
    shirt and tie.
  2. Processing fee of Two Hundred and Fifty U.S. Dollars ($250.00), AS OF DECEMBER 15, 2007 THE FEE WILL BE
    $150.00.  Payable in CASH.
  3. Completion of the application form.
  4. Interview by the consular Officer at the Consulate.

Birth Affidavit Requirements
A Birth Affidavit is issued to Liberian Citizens who have lost or misplaced their original Birth Certificate.  Requirements for
Birth Affidavit are as follows:
  1. Applicants must show valid proof of citizenship such as:
  1. Liberian Passport.
  2. Refugee Documents.
  3. Republic of Liberia National Identification card (ID).
  4. Notarized letter from both parents certifying that you were born in Liberia.
  1. Processing fee of Seventy Five U.S. Dollars ($75.00).
  2. Completion of Application form with 2 Passport Size Photos
  3. Applicants need not apply in person.  They must send a USPS self-stamped address envelope (EXPRESS MAIL)
    together with the requirements.

Laissez Passer (Travel Certificate)
Requirements  
Requirements for Laissez Passer (Travel Certificate) are as follows:
  1. Copy of Liberian Passport.
  2. Copy of Airline ticket.
  3. Two (2) passport size photos.
  4. Processing fee of Seventy Five U.S. Dollars ($75.00).
  5. Completion of Application form.
  6. Applicants need not apply in person.  They must send a USPS self-stamped address envelope (EXPRESS MAIL)
    together with the requirements.

Requirements for the Renewal of
Liberian Passport
1. Liberian Passport
2. 1 Passport size Photo
3. Fee of $75.00 for every (2) two years from the date of expiration

Requirements for Notarial Certificate
(Legalization of Documents)
1. Original Document(s) to be legalized
2. Certificate from the Secretary of State or County Clerk Certificate
3. Covering Letter stating what kind of service(s) you want us to do
4. Duplicate Copy of all the Documents
5. Applicants need not apply in person.  They must send a USPS self-stamped address envelope (EXPRESS MAIL)  
together with the requirements.
6. Processing Fee (s) as follows:       
a.  Private               (  $75.00)
b. Corporation         ($150.00)    


Requirements for the Death Certificate
to Transport Human Remains to Liberia
Requirements are as follows:
1. Letter from Funeral Homes indicating arrangements for the transfer of remains.
2. Embalming Affidavit
3. Burial Transit Permit
4. Certified Copy of Death Certificate
5. Non-Contagious Disease Certificate
6. Passport or Alien Card of the Deceased
7. Non-Contraband Letter
8. Flight information (Name of Airline, Flight Number, Date and Time of Departure/Arrival, Name, Address and
Telephone Number of Shipping Funeral Home, and Name, Address and Telephone Number of receiving      
Funeral Homes.
9. The Casket should be sealed, Airtight, and Water-resistant and lined.
10. Embalmer must come in at the Consulate in person with his/her License ID to sign documents.
11. A processing fee of One Hundred US Dollars ($100.00)
